Meditation has been practiced in various forms for thousands of years all over the world. From the jungles of Borneo to the Ganges River, Tibetan tundra to Siberian back woods, shamans, sadhus and seekers alike have gone within to find God, find themselves, find purpose and meaning in life. Archaeological relics from the ruins of Mohenjo-Daro in western Punjab, India depict the ancient yogic deity Shiva (as An) sitting cross-legged meditating on his Third Eye in a state of transcendental bliss. Buddha sat under a tree; Jesus sat in the Desert and Mohammad in a cave. All the great prophets, gurus and saints used some form of meditation to commune with God and realize their true Self.

In the Yoga Sutras Patanjali defines yoga as the cessation of thought or the absence of mental modification. When the mind becomes still, inner clarity develops and the true nature of the Self is revealed. This is the essence of yoga; yoga is the both the art and science of Self Realization. Initially an aspiring yogi or yogini would be taught various yoga asanas or postures to prepare the body for meditation. The goal has always been to quiet the body in order to quiet the mind. In India the Rishis developed various meditation practices based on the level and temperament of the student.

Some forms of meditation are contemplative, where the student reflects on a verse from an illuminated text such as the Bible, Koran, Yoga Sutras or Bhagavad-Gita; yet others are quite active and involve some conscious movement as in tantric lovemaking, tai chi or practicing yoga postures with such inner quiet that the student goes into meditation while holding a pose. A common form of meditation to begin with involves primordial sounds called mantras. Most spiritual disciplines recognize the mind altering power of sound vibrations: the Sanskrit language of the Yogis, ancient Hebrew and Arabic are each believed to conduct energy when spoken or contemplated.

The most familiar mantra Om often pronounced as Aum moves life force energy up the spine to the top of the head. The Ahhh sound can be felt in the region of the navel, the Ohhh and Uuuu sound are carried at the heart and throat centers, and the Mmmm vibration is felt as the buzzing of bees in the head. Repeating this sound relaxes the mind and turns ones awareness inward. The popular Transcendental Meditation or TM of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi repeat a single sacred sound mantra from the Vedas is repeated to help aspirants go within and find inner peace; whereas members of the Hari Krishna movement, or ISCON, repeat a series of sacred trance inducing sounds praising God that creates a euphoric state, this is called Japa.

One of the more common forms of meditation involves concentration on various energy centers of the body called Chakras; where a meditator would concentrate their attention on such areas as their Navel Center (Manipura), Heart Center (Anahata) or Third Eye (Ajna). The energy being directed to these centers through focused attention activates the energy at these points and shifts the state of consciousness of the meditator. For instance, when one focuses at the Third Eye point between the eyebrows this activates the pituitary and pineal gland which help regulate your brain wave frequencies, like a natural biofeedback response. As the student connects with their life force energy, or kundalini shakti, at this point their brain wave frequencies drop from Beta (14-40 cycles per second) to Alpha (7-13 cycles per second), and eventually lower still to Theta (4-6 cps) and Delta (0-3 cps). While in these ultra quiet states inner clarity develops and the consciousness is liberated from the confines of the mind and sense perception and merges into the wholesamadhi. These exercises are even more powerful when initiated by a Guru whose spirit or Shakti can conduct the life force to make it easier for the student to tune into or connect with.

One of the most powerful forms of meditation is direct inquiry or self-reflection. When the yogi reflects on the very impetus that causes them to meditate they make a direct connection with their Self: That which you are seeking is causing you to seek. To ask yourself who am I? and go into the part of you that wants to know is to practice a form of yoga called Jnana. Simply observing that which is observing the mind liberates it from the mind. Just as one would look into their reflection in a mirror to know what they looked like, one has only to reflect upon their own nature to realize it.

At the heart of meditation lies the heart. It is through grace that our own true nature is revealed and it is through love that God is revealed. When the meditating yogi opens their heart to receive, when they surrender the doer then their own true nature becomes clear. The devotion to your Creator expressed through the devotion in your practice makes the practice of meditation easy and enjoyable to practice. Most people struggle with trying to stop their mind, which is like a cat chasing its tail. When the yogi allows their spirit, or life force, to meditate them then the practice of meditation becomes profound.

The use of a Guru or teacher has proven effective to help students find the truth that lies within them for thousands of years; it works. Most Westerners are leery of those who purport to be Gurus, and for good reason as this sacred trust has been abused by a few in the past, but nonetheless it is time tested and proven effective. When the student is ready the teacher will appear, but a reliable Guru is one who empowers you to find the True Guru, or Sat Guru, within your Self. Ultimately, that which created you, and which sustains your existence, is guiding you to awaken your consciousness to full realization; it is what is causing you to read this right now.

There is a new game in town when it comes to casual gaming; hidden object mystery / adventure. At their core these games revolve around finding a list of items in an elaborate themed scene. Generally they are timed and you are penalized for random clicking or clicking on the wrong items. To keep things interesting and flowing there will usually be a mini game or two at the appropriate timing. The beauty of these games is in their simplicity, you can go from start to totally absorbed in a blink of an eye.

You might ask where is the fun in a game like this? I mean there is no gem matching, no arcade action, no shooting, no finicky customers, no virtual people to guide, I dont get it. Again I believe their secret to fun lie in their simplicity. Humans are visual by nature. How many times have you forgotten somebodys name shortly after meeting them? Of course you remember their face but not their name. It has also been reported that half of our brains are dedicated to processing visual information. In fact our vision is so detailed that we are only aware of 5% of it. I would speculate that this might have something to do with why we enjoy games like these. It requires we use a foundational level of our minds.

At a higher level these games might also be appealing if you are interested in the story line or subject matter. A good example of story line would be something like Agatha Christie: Death On The Nile. This game is based off the 1937 mystery novel of the same name. You play as Hercule Poirot investigating a murder on a cruise ship. The story unfolds as you play; there are short cut scenes that illustrate the narrative. Initially you have access to only a couple rooms in which you will start your investigation. There is a list of items you need to find in order to complete a room. Completing a room reveals more of the story and more clues to piece together. At the end of the game you get your chance to identify the real murderer.

A game like Hidden Expedition Titanic may be a good example of subject matter. In this game you are working for the Expedition Adventure League and its your job to explore the wreckage and collect artifacts for the Titanic Museum. In between levels the game displays some interesting facts about the ship and its passengers. If you are intrigued with the Titanic this could an engaging game.

There are many other excellent games available but apparently the developers have discovered a successful formula here. For example, as of this writing four of the top ten casual games downloaded are of this genre. As long as the players continue downloading I would guarantee the developers will deliver with more and more compelling content.

While playing these games Im routinely surprised to find the object Im looking for right in front of me. Once your eye locates an object it appears clear as day and you wonder how you hadnt seen it immediately. You have to give credit to the developers and artists who have done such a nice job with the games design and art work.

So, if you are interested in a very relaxed game play with an extremely easy learning curve then look no further! The phrase A picture is worth a thousand words. certainly applies in this case. A written description of these games truly doesnt do them justice. You really do need to experience one for yourself to really get it.

Gene (not real name) is the fifth child in a family of six girls and two boys. Her eldest sister, the first sibling in the family, was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of twenty-seven. Unfortunately, Gene was also diagnosed with breast cancer at twenty-seven years old.

Genes problem started in mid-December 2002, when she found a lump in her right breast. She went to see a surgeon in a private hospital and did a lumpectomy. Gene was given the good news that the lump was not malignant. The histopathology report dated 17 December 2002, stated: Sclerosing adenosis of the breast with atypical ductal hyperplasia. Advised periodic follow up. The immuno-histochemical stains were negative for ER, PR, c-erbB2.

About a year after the surgery, Gene noticed that the surgical wound became rather hard and with time started to grow in thickness. Gene consulted another surgeon in another private hospital. An ultrasound of her right breast done on 9 June 2005 showed two lesions, one of which was 9 mm x 7.5 mm x 10 mm in size. The radiologist concluded that these could be malignant and suggested a FNAC study. An ultrasound of the left breast showed a 7 x 2 mm simple cyst.

A tru-cut biopsy was done to the right breast lump on 18 June 2005 and it confirmed the clinical suspicion of malignancy. The lesion was an infiltrating, poorly differentiated mammary ductal carcinoma, probably Grade 3. An ultrasound of the abdomen and chest X-ray did not show any abnormality.

Gene went back to the first surgeon who did her lumpectomy and underwent a right mastectomy with axillary clearance. The subsequent histopathology report dated 24 June 2005, confirmed previous diagnosis of infiltrating ductal carcinoma Schirrhous type with tubular pattern, Grade 2. The cancer was staged as T1bN1Mo. The adjacent breast tissue was found to be fibrocystic with sclerosing adenosis. The resected margins, areola and nipple were clear of any tumour tissues. One of the ten axillary lymph nodes was affected. The axillary fat was also found to be infiltrated by malignant tumour.

Gene underwent adjuvant chemotherapy in mid-July 2005. The first four cycles consisted of epirubicin and cyclophosphamide. This treatment, completed in mid-September 2005, was followed by four cycles of Formoxol (an international brand name of paclitaxel, marketed in Malaysia). Each cycle of chemotherapy was given every three weeks. Gene suffered severe side effects such as vomiting, breathlessness, lack of strength and pains throughout her body. When asked if she would want to go for more chemotherapy, Gene shook her head vigorously with disapproval. She had developed a phobia for injection.

After the completion of chemotherapy on 7 December 2005, Gene underwent twenty radiation treatments onto her chest well. This treatment started on 29 December 2005 and lasted until 27 January 2006. Gene felt hot inside her body during the radiotherapy. Fortunately she did suffer much side effects during chemotherapy.

With the completion of the above treatments, Gene was happy believing that the cancer has at last been conquered. She went back to her oncologist and surgeon for routine check up. Ultrasound reports of 9 May 2006 and 8 November 2006, confirmed absence of any abnormality in her abdomen. A bone scan report dated 28 August 2006, confirmed no evidence of MDP avid skeletal metastasis. Blood test results of 8 November 2006 and 13 February 2007 showed CEA, CA 125 and CA 15.3 to be within normal limits. Her liver function values done on 8 November 2006 showed normal values.

However, Gene started to sense problem by February 2007 barely a year after her apparent successful treatment. Both her buttock and backbone were hurting. An ultrasound on 2 April 2007 showed a 5 mm x 6 mm nodule at 9 oclock position of her left breast. The surgeon proceeded to remove this lump and found it not malignant.

CT scan done on 16 June 2007 showed disturbing and distressing features. There was a 0.5 cm nodule in the left thyroid. There were also hypodense lesions seen in the posterior aspect of the right 6th rib, vertebral body of L2, left iliac crest, left iliac bone and the neck of the right femur.

MRI of the pelvis on 18 June 2007 indicated lesion in the mid 3rd medial right ilium, left anterior superios iliac spine, right and left body of S2 vertebrae, head of right femur and intertrochanter region of left femur.

The general impression of the CT scan and MRI finding was that of multiple bony metastases. This was further collaborated by a bone scan report dated 19 June 2007 which reads: Increased uptake of tracer in the L2 vertebrae is due to MDP avid skeletal metastasis. Increase uptake of tracer seen in L3, L4 and L5 vertebrae is metabolically active lesion, most likely due to DXT. Increased uptake of tracer seen in left anterior superior iliac spine is likely due to muscle attachment.

Since Gene suffered pains, she underwent palliative radiotherapy. After seven treatments, there was less pain. She has five more radiation sessions to go. The oncologist wanted to give Gene more chemotherapy but she declined and came to seek our help. Gene came to our centre on a wheel chair since she had difficulty walking due to pains. She was prescribed Capsule A, Breast M, Bone tea and Pain Tea.

Herbs Made Her Well

It was indeed a big surprise for me to see Gene walking into our centre on her own without the need of a wheelchair just five days after her fist visit to us. Gene told us that after taking the herbs for three days, she felt better and had more energy. The pains had lessened significantly to enable her to walk by herself.

Three weeks after her first visit to us, I asked Gene if she was just play-acting when she came to see us on a wheelchair. I wanted to know if she was trying to gain sympathy from her sisters and husband who came along with her. Gene said that even after seven radiation treatments she had pains that made it difficult for her to move. The pains were real!

Gene came to see us again after three weeks on herbs. She looked radiant. She was getting better! Gene told us that she was able to sleep well. Previously, her sleep was difficult and she was not able to turn her body to the right or left. After the herbs, she was able to turn her body without any problem. Previously, Gene was not able to lean forward when sitting down, after the herbs that problem too went away. Gene said she is getting better with each day. She decided not to go for any more radiotherapy.
